Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has reiterated Tehran’s rejection of the two-state solution, arguing that it fails to secure the fundamental rights of Palestinians. Speaking at an emergency meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah, he reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to an alternative vision—one that calls for a single democratic state encompassing all of historic Palestine, rather than what he described as an ineffective international compromise.
Araghchi condemned Israel’s ongoing war crimes, particularly in Gaza, where over 48,000 people, mostly women and children, have been killed in 16 months of relentless Israeli aggression. He stressed that the crisis in Gaza is not just a humanitarian catastrophe but a long-standing injustice inflicted on an entire nation for over seven decades. He also denounced the role of the United States and its Western allies, accusing them of providing Israel with military, financial, and diplomatic cover, enabling its occupation and unbridled assault on Palestinian lives.
Warning against Israeli attempts to forcibly displace Gaza’s population, Araghchi described such actions as blatant violations of international law and crimes against humanity. He urged the international community to resist efforts to alter Palestine’s demographic composition under the guise of security, stressing that forced displacement amounts to ethnic cleansing and cannot be legitimised under any pretext.
Reiterating the Palestinian right to resist occupation, the Iranian minister criticised Western double standards, which justify Israel’s violence as “self-defence” while denying Palestinians the same right. He called on OIC member states to impose collective sanctions on Israel and entities complicit in its crimes, emphasising the need for increased economic and diplomatic pressure.
Addressing Israel’s tightening of the siege on Gaza, including its obstruction of humanitarian aid, Araghchi proposed an international initiative under OIC leadership to coordinate relief efforts and finance the reconstruction of vital infrastructure. He also urged the expulsion of Israel from the United Nations, citing its flagrant violations of international law and its blatant disregard for UN resolutions. Furthermore, he proposed the establishment of an International Day of Remembrance for Gaza’s victims, ensuring that the atrocities committed against Palestinians are neither forgotten nor normalised in global discourse.
