Gaza Civil Defence Warns of Imminent Building Collapses Amid Catastrophic Conditions

The Gaza Civil Defence has issued a stark warning that thousands of buildings damaged by Israeli bombardment are at risk of collapsing at any moment, describing the situation as catastrophic. Mahmoud Basil, the agency’s spokesperson, told *Shehab Agency* that severely damaged structures, particularly high-rise towers, are under immediate threat, with a recent partial collapse reported in Tel al-Hawa.

Basil explained that the Civil Defence is inundated with reports of cracked walls and unstable buildings but faces severe challenges in responding due to a lack of equipment, machinery, and fuel. Despite warnings to residents to evacuate at-risk homes and towers, most have no alternative shelter, leaving them in constant danger.

Tragically, the agency has recorded multiple casualties from collapsing structures, including the deaths of two sisters in Tel al-Hawa after a wall fell on them. Basil called on international and human rights organisations to intervene urgently, stressing the need for reconstruction and the reopening of crossings to allow repairs.

“The continued closure of crossings is preventing us from saving lives and rebuilding homes,” he said. “The people of Gaza cannot endure this suffering any longer.”

As the risk of further collapses looms, the international community faces mounting pressure to act before more lives are lost in this unfolding humanitarian crisis.
