Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saïd Iravani, has strongly rejected US and Israeli accusations that Iran is engaged in destabilizing activities, calling them baseless and a calculated attempt to shield Israel from accountability for its crimes. In letters addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Security Council President Christina Markus Lassen, Iravani denounced the allegations as a diversion from Israel’s ongoing “genocidal war” and mass atrocities against Palestinians in Gaza.
“These unfounded claims are nothing but a desperate attempt to distract the international community from Israel’s war crimes and to maintain impunity for its crimes,” Iravani stated. He emphasized that the accusations also aim to obscure the undeniable complicity of the United States in enabling Israel’s actions through unwavering political, military, and financial support.
Iravani criticized the US for manipulating the Security Council to advance its political agenda and for falsely portraying Iran as a threat to international peace and security. He reiterated that Iran’s nuclear activities are entirely peaceful and fully compliant with its obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). In contrast, he pointed out, the US remains the only country to have used nuclear weapons, committing war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The ambassador also condemned Washington’s double standards, noting its silence on Israel’s undeclared nuclear arsenal and repeated threats to use weapons of mass destruction against Palestinians in Gaza. “Such hypocrisy clearly demonstrates that non-proliferation is merely a political tool for the US,” Iravani said.
He further accused the US of shielding Israel from accountability while fabricating allegations against Iran, stressing that these actions undermine the credibility of international institutions and perpetuate injustice in the region.
Iravani’s remarks underscore Iran’s firm stance against what it sees as a biased and hypocritical approach by the US and its allies, while reaffirming Tehran’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause and exposing Israel’s crimes on the global stage.
