The head of the International Committee of the Red Cross has delivered a stark and chilling assessment of life in Gaza, calling the humanitarian situation “hell on Earth.” Mirjana Spoljaric Egger warned that the organisation’s field hospital will run out of essential supplies within two weeks, as Israel’s total siege on the besieged enclave continues unabated.
“For six weeks, nothing has been allowed in,” Spoljaric said from Geneva. “We now find ourselves in a situation I must describe as hell on Earth. People cannot access water, electricity, or food in many areas.” Her words echo the growing alarm voiced by international agencies, who are struggling to keep their operations alive amid airstrikes and a suffocating blockade.
The World Health Organization also raised the alarm, confirming a catastrophic collapse of medical services. Most hospitals are barely functioning, with critical shortages in blood bags, antibiotics, and essential supplies. Richard Peeperkorn, speaking for WHO from Jerusalem, reported that only 22 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals remain partially operational.
Israeli bombardment has intensified for nearly a month, leaving entire neighbourhoods flattened and families displaced under constant fire. Humanitarian teams are unable to move safely, while famine spreads and medical stocks vanish. Gaza, already bleeding, is being pushed beyond the brink—its people left to survive under the rubble of indifference and destruction.
