Hamas Offers to Free All prisoners if Israel Ends War on Gaza

Hamas has announced its willingness to release all remaining Israeli prisoners, but only under a genuine ceasefire deal that guarantees a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Speaking to AFP on 14 April, senior Hamas official Taher al-Nounou said the group seeks firm international guarantees to prevent Israel from violating any agreement, accusing it of stalling talks and continuing its attacks.

Negotiations are ongoing in Cairo, with mediation by Egypt and Qatar. A new proposal reportedly involves the release of ten prisoners in exchange for US-backed commitments to further truce talks.

Hamas insists on a permanent ceasefire, not a temporary pause, warning that current proposals aim to weaken the movement without addressing Palestinian demands.

Since 7 October, over 50,000 Palestinians—mostly women and children—have been killed, and more than 116,000 injured in Israel’s war on Gaza.
