France has voiced its backing for the Arab initiative to reconstruct Gaza, aligning itself with regional efforts to address the unprecedented devastation left by nearly two years of Israeli military assaults.
Speaking from Baghdad, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot underscored the urgency of both reconstruction and a lasting political resolution. France’s position reinforces growing international consensus that rebuilding Gaza must go hand in hand with restoring Palestinian rights and ending the blockade.
The Arab plan, which proposes a six-month transitional committee composed of independent Palestinian technocrats, aims to stabilise the Strip and pave the way for broader national unity. France’s support signals a potential shift in European engagement, placing humanitarian recovery and Palestinian self-governance at the centre of future solutions.
As Gaza’s homes, hospitals, and schools lie in ruins, Palestinians hope these pledges will translate into meaningful action—not only to rebuild walls, but to restore dignity.
