Hundreds of Google DeepMind employees in Britain have launched a bid to unionise, driven by mounting anger over the company’s involvement in supplying technology to Israeli government-linked entities.

According to the Financial Times, around 300 workers are rallying against Google's role in Project Nimbus — a $1.2 billion deal providing cloud services and artificial intelligence tools to Israeli ministries, including the Ministry of Defence. The revelation has sparked serious concerns among staff, many of whom reject the idea that their work could be used to reinforce repression and fuel human rights violations.

Internal sources say employees view the agreements as a stark betrayal of Google’s professed ethical standards. They are demanding greater transparency and a reassessment of partnerships that risk entrenching injustice, particularly as Israel’s ongoing actions in Gaza have drawn widespread condemnation.

This growing movement follows repeated criticisms from human rights organisations, who argue that tech giants must be held accountable when their innovations are used to deepen suffering and conflict.
