Gaza’s Children Face a Second Year Without Education as War Destroys Schools

Around 660,000 children in Gaza are now receiving no formal education, according to UNRWA, marking the second consecutive year they’ve been denied schooling amid the ongoing war. What little remained of temporary learning activities has been suspended as Israeli bombardment resumes, and the latest displacement orders have further severed children from psychological and recreational support.

Education has collapsed in Gaza under the weight of relentless attacks. Nearly all schools have either been destroyed or repurposed as makeshift shelters. UNRWA previously reported that 70% of its schools were bombed—most of them while sheltering displaced families. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Education, 85% of educational institutions in the Strip are now out of service, with thousands of students and teachers killed.

With Gaza’s classrooms reduced to rubble and no safe space left for learning, an entire generation is being stripped not only of its childhood but also of its future.
