Palestinians condemn Morocco-Israel agreement

Palestinian political groups in the Gaza strip slammed the announcement of Morocco’s plans to normalize ties with Israel.

Hamas spokesperson, Hazem Qassem, said in a statement that the agreement "is a political sin that does not serve the Palestinian cause but encourages the Israeli occupation to continue its negligence of the rights of Palestinian people.

Qassem stated that such normalization agreements would increase Israel’s aggressive policy against the Palestinians, in addition to increasing settlement activity on Palestinian lands.

For its part, the Islamic Jihad movement considered the Moroccan move a betrayal to Jerusalem and Palestine, and it is another setback to the Arab regime.

Moreover, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine underscored that the normalization deal is "a black day in the history of our people and our Arab nation."

US President Donald Trump announced yesterday that Israel and Morocco have agreed to full diplomatic relations.

The US-brokered normalization deal was welcomed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who described it as "another great light of peace".

Morocco became the fourth nation to normalize ties with Israel after Sudan, which declared official normalization of relations with Israel in October, and Bahrain and the UAE, which agreed to establish full diplomatic, cultural, and commercial relations with Israel in September.
