The United Nations has confirmed mounting evidence of widespread suffering and famine across the Gaza Strip, calling on the international community to intensify pressure on Israel to stop the war and allow immediate humanitarian access.
Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, stated on Friday evening that Gaza is facing an unprecedented humanitarian collapse. “We have ample evidence of the scale of suffering and famine,” he said, urging the reopening of border crossings to let aid in.
The UN has also made it clear that Israel must be held accountable under international law for its actions in Gaza. Haq condemned the targeting of civilians and aid workers, describing it as a form of collective punishment—a grave breach of international humanitarian norms.
While thousands of aid trucks remain stuck outside Gaza’s sealed borders, the population continues to starve. The Security Council, fully briefed on the crisis, has yet to act decisively. Meanwhile, the people of Gaza, especially children, endure the unthinkable under siege, hunger, and relentless airstrikes.
