In another harrowing escalation of violence against Gaza’s crumbling healthcare system, the Israeli army bombed the Indonesian Hospital in Jabalia on Sunday, completely disabling its power generators and cutting off all medical services. The Palestinian Ministry of Health has described the attack as an assault on the very heart of Gaza’s medical lifeline, warning of catastrophic consequences for hundreds of patients and wounded civilians.
"The deliberate targeting of electricity generators means a complete halt to medical operations," the Ministry stated, condemning the strike as a war crime under international law. With the hospital plunged into darkness, surgeries were abruptly halted, and the intensive care unit came under fire. One patient was reportedly shot by Israeli forces, while doctors were left powerless to proceed with critical operations due to the siege.
The director of the hospital, Marwan Al-Sultan, confirmed that Israeli drones encircled the facility, firing live ammunition at anyone who moved nearby. The situation, he said, has created a state of panic among patients, many of whom are too fragile to be moved.
This attack comes just days after the European Gaza Hospital was also forced out of service, signalling what many fear is a systematic campaign to dismantle Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure. The Ministry of Health reported that two patients were injured while attempting to flee the Indonesian Hospital amidst the chaos.
The continued siege not only blocks access for new casualties but also isolates the remaining medical teams struggling to save lives. Gaza’s hospitals, once safe havens for the wounded, have now become targets.
The Ministry has urgently called for international intervention to stop the attacks on hospitals and protect the medical staff and patients still clinging to life under siege. Without electricity, supplies, or protection, Gaza’s healthcare system is collapsing—one hospital at a time—before the eyes of a world that has yet to act.
