Red Cross Warns of Imminent Humanitarian Collapse in Gaza

The International Committee of the Red Cross has raised alarm over the devastating humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza, warning that the situation is teetering on the edge of total collapse. Hisham Mhanna, the ICRC’s spokesperson in Gaza, described the conditions as “almost impossible” for delivering aid, amid a relentless blockade and intensifying Israeli military operations.

Speaking to the press, Mhanna condemned the failure to ensure even minimal aid delivery over the past two months, noting that the so-called partial reopening of crossings remains deeply inadequate. Food is now scarce, prices are skyrocketing, and the population—already traumatised—is pushed to the brink of survival.

He underlined that Israel, as the occupying power, bears full legal responsibility for ensuring that the civilian population has access to basic necessities. He firmly rejected the use of humanitarian aid as a bargaining chip in political or military agendas, insisting that assistance must remain neutral and unimpeded.

Since March 18, the resumption of airstrikes and repeated evacuation orders have left thousands dead or injured. With no safe shelter in sight, families are forced to flee repeatedly—often under fire—while international aid organisations like the Red Cross struggle to respond to the deluge of emergency calls.

In his closing remarks, Mhanna issued a stark plea: “Flood Gaza with aid. End the bloodshed.” His words echo a growing international outcry as Gaza sinks deeper into catastrophe, its people left with nothing but fear, hunger, and fading hope.
