Wounded and Alone, 10-Year-Old Amin Awaits Lifesaving Evacuation from Gaza

Ten-year-old Amin Attallah has been confined to a wheelchair for six months, his small body torn apart by shrapnel from an Israeli drone strike that killed his father, brother, and extended family in a single moment. He is the only survivor of the January 10 attack on their home in Al-Bureij Refugee Camp, central Gaza.

Amin was quietly drawing next to his brother when the missile struck. Since then, his life has become a race against time. Shrapnel remains lodged in his neck, shoulder, and leg, and though Gaza’s doctors performed what emergency surgeries they could, the medical blockade has denied him access to the critical treatment he urgently needs abroad.

He was granted a referral for surgery on January 16, but with the crossings closed and medical evacuations halted, Amin remains trapped. Without immediate intervention, his injuries could result in permanent disability. Worse still, he bears the psychological weight of total loss, his family gone, his future uncertain.

Amin’s story is just one among thousands. In Gaza, war doesn't end with survival. For children like him, survival begins a different kind of suffering, one shaped by isolation, grief, and a global indifference that keeps borders shut and help out of reach. His aunt now pleads with the world to act before it’s too late.
