The attack on the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis has revealed a disturbing level of precision and intent. What was initially portrayed as a single follow-up strike has now been shown, through mobile phone footage, to have been two simultaneous tank shells hitting the upper floors of the hospital. This timing proved catastrophic, as it coincided with the arrival of journalists and medical workers rushing to assist the wounded after the first blast.
The result was devastating: 22 lives lost, including five journalists and members of the medical staff, with more than 50 others injured. Patients already under treatment inside the hospital were not spared, as the emergency department itself was directly targeted. Such deliberate strikes on a medical facility, a place meant to save lives, have left Gaza’s people once again facing the unbearable reality of watching both healers and truth-tellers silenced in moments of chaos.
The targeting of hospitals and those documenting events has become an alarming pattern. By striking when rescuers and reporters had gathered, the attack not only maximised the human toll but also disrupted life-saving efforts and obstructed the documentation of what followed. Despite expressions of “regret” from the occupation, the evidence suggests a calculated operation carried out on the ground with the intent to cause maximum harm and suppress the narrative emerging from Gaza.
