Islam Abu Hadaf, a displaced Palestinian, recounts the relentless toll of war and forced displacement on his family, marked by profound loss and ongoing struggle. Exhausted physically, financially, and emotionally, Abu Hadaf described the terror that accompanied each relocation, triggered not only by air raids but by the burdens that displacement imposes. Daily life meant searching for potable water, healthcare, and shelter while grappling with the constant financial and physical strain.
The personal cost has been devastating. On June 11, Israeli strikes destroyed his brother Abdul Wahab’s tent, killing him and his family. Abu Hadaf has endured similar tragedies throughout his life: another brother, Ihab, was killed defending Al-Aqsa Mosque during the “Million Uprising” in 1996, and his last surviving brother, Firas, was killed on August 26 in the ongoing conflict. His mother suffered deeply from the repeated losses, yet, as Abu Hadaf recounts, she accepted them with faith and patience, drawing strength from the belief that her children’s sacrifices are honoured.
Despite unimaginable grief, Abu Hadaf affirms his resilience and determination. “No matter how much they try to uproot us from our land, we remain steadfast. Gaza’s destiny is to be rebuilt and liberated, alongside all of Palestine,” he said. His testimony highlights the enduring human spirit amidst systematic violence, reflecting a commitment to survival, justice, and the hope of restoring what has been destroyed.
