As Winter Nears, Al-Mughraqa Braces for Cold Without Shelter

In the heart of Gaza, the residents of Al-Mughraqa are preparing for another harsh winter, still without proper homes, heating, or protection from the rain. Across the sandy landscape, rows of worn tents stretch endlessly, a stark reminder of the third winter displaced families are now facing since the start of the genocidal war.

For thousands in the town, survival means enduring freezing nights with no blankets, mattresses, or roofs strong enough to withstand the coming storms. “We came back after the war ended, but there was nothing left,” said Jamal Al-Najjar, a displaced resident now living in a tent. “We are afraid of the coming winter, the mud, the floods, and the cold. It will turn our lives into hell.”

More than a thousand families in Al-Mughraqa alone remain without adequate shelter, and humanitarian organisations warn that the approaching winter could bring a new wave of suffering across the Gaza Strip. Over 1.9 million people are now displaced, many of them forced to sleep in damaged tents or in the open. As restrictions on aid continue and building materials remain barred from entering the territory, the risk of a humanitarian and environmental catastrophe grows by the day.

For the families of Gaza, winter is not a season, it is another test of endurance in a life stripped of safety and warmth.
