Political leaders in Gaza have urged international mediators to intervene decisively amid what they describe as repeated Israeli breaches of the ceasefire. Local officials say recent strikes in Gaza City and Khan Younis have left dozens dead, including several women and children, prompting renewed fears that the genocidal war could be reignited under the cover of the truce.
They accuse the Israeli leadership of deliberately undermining the fragile pause, claiming that allegations of coming under fire are being used as a pretext to continue operations that have already devastated entire neighbourhoods. Since the ceasefire came into effect, more than 300 Palestinians have been reported killed, while home demolitions and the continued closure of the Rafah crossing have fuelled anger and heightened concerns about Israel’s willingness to respect the agreement.
Local authorities have called on the United States to uphold the assurances it has publicly given and to apply immediate pressure to halt Israeli actions that endanger civilians and weaken the terms of the ceasefire. Mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey are also being urged to step in and fulfil their responsibilities as guarantors, as many fear that without meaningful intervention, the truce could collapse and the genocide resume on an even larger scale.
