Rising Detentions Deepen Fears Across the Occupied West Bank

Residents across the occupied West Bank woke on Sunday to another sweep of night-time raids that have become increasingly frequent since the onset of the genocidal war in Gaza. Communities describe a climate of escalating pressure, marked by sudden home invasions, confiscation of property, and the tightening of movement already strained by military checkpoints. Families say the pattern has turned daily life into a cycle of uncertainty, with each dawn bringing new reports of neighbours taken away.

In several towns near Nablus and Hebron, troops entered homes before sunrise, detaining multiple individuals, including minors, after searches that left properties ransacked. Local residents recount that such operations now unfold with little warning, often accompanied by the presence of armed settlers who move through agricultural areas, taking equipment and damaging land. Farmers report that losing essential tools has made it harder to maintain their fields at a time when livelihoods are already under severe stress.

Witnesses in communities from Burin to Beit Ummar say that the raids commonly involve stun grenades and gas fired near residential areas, further alarming families who remain inside. Young men have been detained in Bethlehem and villages west of the city following similar night-time intrusions. Those living in these areas argue that the steady rise in detentions and settler violence signals a broader attempt to tighten control over Palestinian towns as the wider region remains engulfed in a genocidal war, leaving them feeling increasingly exposed and unprotected.
