A London-based political academic has cautioned that initiatives presented as pathways to stability in Gaza are, in practice, designed to advance the forced displacement of its population. He argued that the newly proposed governance structures, framed publicly as mechanisms for peace, offer no credible prospect for reconstruction or political cohesion and instead consolidate external control over the territory.
According to the academic, the body described as a “Peace Council” would operate as a joint US-Israeli security framework with authority concentrated outside Palestinian hands. Any executive body emerging from it would function with narrowly defined powers, unable to take decisions independently and required to operate within parameters set by Washington and Tel Aviv. In this context, rebuilding Gaza or fostering internal Palestinian unity would not be a priority.
He further stated that the strategic objective pursued throughout the genocidal war has remained consistent: preventing Palestinian self-determination and encouraging population removal from Gaza. Measures such as restricting aid, limiting shelter materials and seeking third countries willing to receive displaced residents were cited as part of this approach.
The academic also warned that international discussions surrounding Gaza increasingly focus on economic and commercial visions for the coastline, rather than the political rights and aspirations of its people. Recent diplomatic moves at the United Nations, including support for a transitional technocratic administration under external supervision, were described as reinforcing this trajectory rather than offering a genuinely representative solution.
