Rafah Crossing Reopens in Part, but Medical Evacuations Remain Severely Restricted

After weeks of near-total closure, the Rafah crossing has reopened on a limited basis, permitting only a small number of medical evacuations under tightly controlled conditions. A handful of patients from hospitals in southern Gaza have been allowed to travel for treatment abroad, yet the overwhelming majority remain trapped, with access dependent on prior authorisation and complex procedures.

Humanitarian observers indicate that this restricted reopening does little to address the scale of the crisis. Thousands of injured and critically ill individuals continue to wait for urgent care that is unavailable داخل the territory, as the healthcare system struggles under the weight of sustained destruction linked to the ongoing genocidal war. Hospitals face acute shortages of equipment, medicine, and specialist staff, leaving many conditions untreated or worsening by the day.

Medical professionals warn that delays in evacuation are likely to have life-threatening consequences. With movement still heavily constrained, concerns are growing that patients who could otherwise be treated may instead face irreversible deterioration. Calls are mounting for immediate and expanded access to ensure that those in need can receive timely and adequate medical care beyond Gaza’s borders.
