Ceasefire Frays Further as Civilian Deaths Mount in Gaza

At least six Palestinians were killed in the early hours of Saturday after an Israeli air strike hit a group of civilians in Al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza. Witnesses said the victims had been gathered in a residential area when the strike occurred, leaving several others injured. The incident has reinforced growing fears among residents that the ceasefire is steadily eroding amid continued military activity.

In the southern Gaza Strip, three more civilians were wounded when a drone reportedly dropped an explosive device on a tent sheltering displaced families in the Al-Raqab area, west of Bani Suheila near Khan Younis. Residents also described ongoing fire from helicopter gunships and military vehicles targeting eastern parts of both Gaza City and Khan Younis. Overnight, artillery shelling struck neighbourhoods in eastern Gaza City, while controlled demolition operations were also reported, adding to the sense of insecurity among civilians.

These developments come despite a ceasefire that took effect on 10 October, which has repeatedly come under strain. Local monitoring suggests that hundreds have been killed and thousands injured since the agreement began, raising serious concerns about the safety of civilians and the durability of the truce. For many on the ground, the persistence of such attacks is viewed as part of a continuing genocidal war, casting doubt on whether the ceasefire can hold.
