The Israeli Military Prosecutor, on Tuesday, published its annual report about the indictments filed in the military courts in the West Bank during the past year 2020.
According to the report, the prosecution filed 1,400 indictments last year against those accused of carrying out national activities, compared to 1613 in the previous year, as 245 indictments of which were about rioting, compared to 511 in 2019.
The commander of the Israeli army forces also signed a thousand administrative detention orders, compared to 1334 in 2019.
The prosecution attributed the retreat in court cases to the Coronavirus pandemic and its restrictions. The indictments submitted against Palestinians who entered Israel without permits also decreased from 705 in 2019 to 452 in the last year, 2020.
Regarding the penalty levels in the files, the report pointed out that the charge of throwing stones carries a sentence of up to a year of arrest and throwing Molotov cocktails, without any injuries, causes between 16 and 18 months in the Israeli jails, while throwing tube bombs up to a year and a half of arrest as long as they are free of injuries.
More than 5 thousand prisoners are held in the Israeli prisons in inhuman detention conditions and since the outbreak of Coronavirus epidemic in their ranks, the prisoners suffer from medical negligence and deprivation of preventive and treatment tools.
