The Attorney General of Israel, Avichai Mandelblit, on Sunday decided to close the criminal investigation with Shin Bet officers accused of torturing prisoner Samer Arbid until he was admitted to the hospital in a very serious condition.
“As part of the investigation, officers from the Shin Bet accused of using illegal force were summoned, statements were taken from them, and documents and reports from the Forensic Medical Institute were seized,” said Israeli Channel 13.
It stated that after studying the evidence, Mendelbit decided to archive the file and close it, justifying that after the lack of sufficient evidences to prove that the investigators committed a violation.
The channel quoted the Shin Bet security service that it cooperated with the investigation in this regard and blesses the attorney general's decision to close the file.
Shin Bet security service pointed out that the information obtained from the captive Arbid led the investigators to a lot of weapons and thwarting other operations that the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) was planning.
Besides, the head of Shin Bet, Nadav Argaman, blessed the decision to close the file, saying that he supports the Shin Bet investigators who carried out their mission professionally and within the framework of the law and that they saved the lives of many Israelis, according to his claim.
Prisoner Arbid was accused of leading a cell of the PFLP that carried out the detonation of an explosive device in a spring of water near Ramallah, which leaded to kill a female settler and wounding others.
During interrogation with him, he was brutally tortured and subsequently, he was transferred to the hospital in a very critical condition.
