SAFA — Nearly a year after a ceasefire was declared in Gaza, Palestinians continue to face deadly threats from Israeli attacks, with the United Nations warning Friday that “no place or person is safe” in the besieged enclave.

The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in the occupied Palestinian territory reported that 24 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks over a five-day period between August 28 and September 1.

The victims included four children and one woman, while 21 of the 24 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes.

The UN rights office stressed that Israel’s claim that it is targeting what it considers “legitimate military objectives” does not relieve it of its obligations under international humanitarian law, including the duty to protect civilians and take all feasible precautions to avoid civilian harm.

The office also warned that Israeli military operations, alongside activities by Palestinian armed groups operating with Israeli support, are causing further civilian harm and increasing insecurity across the Gaza Strip.

The warning comes as Gaza remains devastated by years of Israeli attacks, with widespread destruction, severe shortages of basic necessities and restrictions on humanitarian access continuing to place Palestinians at grave risk despite the ceasefire.
