Journalist Support Committee (JSC) has called on Arab and international institutions to provide the necessary support to Palestinian media institutions in light of the violations they are subjected to from the Israeli occupation and the financial crisis that has affected them as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The Geneva-based committee urged in a statement, a copy of which obtained by Safa, on the occasion of World Radio Day, celebrated on 13 February, to support Palestinian media institutions to continue their professional and humanitarian mission in social awareness, and to support those infected with Coronavirus by in light of the difficult economic situation experienced by the majority of local media organizations.
It also called on UNESCO and the international and regional radio unions to boycott Israeli radio stations that broadcast incitement and racism against Palestinian media institutions, calling on the UN Security Council to implement its Resolution No. 2222 on providing protection for journalists.
JSC underlined that all the press crews working in the Palestinian local radio stations are performing their professional role despite the difficult conditions they face due to the ongoing violations of the occupation.
Moreover, it emphasized that the occupation is continuing with its violations against the radio stations and their workers, represented by launching campaigns of repeated raids, looting of equipment, imposing arbitrary orders to close the stations, threatening, arresting journalists working in radio stations, and extending their detention, and practicing racist incitement against the Palestinian media.
The Committee said that the closure, prevention, threats, and arrests committed by the occupation against local radio stations and their crews are a crime against the Palestinian media and an attempt to silence and prevent the occupation's crimes from being exposed.
