Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed, on Tuesday, Ambassadors of European countries that Israel did not work on failing the Palestinian elections.
The political officer of Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated today in his meeting with the Ambassadors of 13 European countries that Israel decided not to intervene in the Palestinian elections in any way.
"And to allow Mahmoud Abbas to decide by himself," he added.
Al-Quds newspaper quoted sources saying that Mahmoud Abbas decided to delay the Palestinian elections under intense Arab and American pressures.
The sources noted that those pressures resulted from beliefs that the results of elections will not be in the best interest of Fateh.
The United States informed the Palestinian Authority that it prefers the elections to be conducted after resuming UNRWA's aids, providing the Palestinian medical system with the needed aids, and reopening the American Council in eastern Jerusalem and the office of the PA in Washington, according to the sources.
Israeli sources mentioned yesterday that Abbas mandated Hussein Al-Sheikh, a member of the Central Committee of Fateh, to talk with the Qatari leadership and persuade it to force Hamas to agree on the delay of elections.
