The Palestinian National Council sent letters to the parliaments and unions all over the world about the ethnic cleansing crime committed by the Israeli occupation authorities against the Jerusalemites in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.
Salim Zanoun, chairman of the Palestinian National Council, reminded the heads of parliaments and unions, most importantly the European Union, of their legal and ethical responsibilities for stopping Israel's ethnic cleansing and displacement of the Jerusalemites from their homes by force.
"It is the time to move and stop this crime of displacing families of Sheikh Jarrah, press on your governments to activate mechanisms of the international law and to hold Israel responsible for its ongoing attacks against the Palestinians," he said in the letters.
The Council confirmed the importance of confronting what the Israeli occupation commits in the occupied Palestinian lands; especially the ethnic cleansing crime.
It mentioned that the displacement targets 500 Palestinians living in 28 homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood to build 200 settlement units instead.
It noted that those homes were legally built for the Palestinians displaced from their homes in 1948 according to the agreement signed in 1956 between the Jordanian government and UNRWA.
The letters described what goes on in Jerusalem as ethnic cleansing targeting the Palestinian civilians, and a crime against humanity.
They confirmed that the Palestinians seek to achieve justice and chase the criminals.
"The parliaments should stand beside the international law, make effort to deter the criminals, and take the needed procedures to bring justice to victims and punish criminals," the letters said.
