OCHA: Israeli settlers disrupt olive harvest season in 19 incidents

Israeli settlers attacked the Palestinian olive harvesters in 19 incidents in the period between 6 and 19 October, resulting in injuring 23 Palestinian farmers, burning or damaging over 1,000 olive trees, and stealing large amounts of produce, according to Protection of Civilians Report by the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in the Palestinian territory.

The report said that settlers stoned and beat Palestinians who were picking olive in the outskirts of Burqa village on three occasions, triggering clashes. The Israeli forces intervened, injuring 14 Palestinians and leaving 30 trees burnt by tear gas canisters.

The other injuries were recorded in farming areas near the town of Huwara in the city of Nablus, and the villages of Ni’lin and Beitillu in Ramallah.

Moreover, the Israeli settlers burn around 450 olive trees next to the Mevo Dotan settlement near Jenin.

The report added that eighty-five Palestinians, including 11 children, were injured in clashes across the West Bank (beyond the abovementioned harvest-related incidents).

Overall, 21 Palestinians were shot by rubber bullets and ten by live ammunition, while the remaining people were mostly treated for tear gas inhalation.

In addition, Israeli forces carried out 126 search-and-arrest operations and arrested 132 Palestinians across the West Bank.

Half of the operations were recorded in the Jerusalem governorate, with the Al Isawiya neighborhood of East Jerusalem witnessing almost daily police activities, resulting in the arrest of 30 Palestinians, including 13 children.

The Israeli authorities demolished or seized eight Palestinian-owned structures in three incidents in Area C of the West Bank, using the pretext of lacking Israeli permits, displacing 12 people.

Five of these structures were in two communities in the Massafer Yatta area of Hebron, which had been designated a ‘firing zone’ for Israeli military training.

The other three structures were demolished in the community of al-Faresiya-Khallet Khader of the Jordan Valley on the basis of Military Order 1797, which allows for demolitions within 96 hours of the issuance of a ‘removal order.’

As for the Gaza strip, the report stated that on 16 October and on 30 occasions, Israeli forces opened warning fire near the perimeter fence, and off Gaza’s coast, apparently to enforce access restrictions, resulting in no injuries.
