Majority of Britons Say Israel Is Committing Genocide in Gaza, New Poll Reveals

A new public opinion survey has revealed that a significant majority of Britons believe Israel’s actions in Gaza amount to genocide. Commissioned by Action for Humanity and the International Centre for Justice for Palestinians, and conducted by YouGov, the poll reflects a growing shift in public sentiment in the United Kingdom.

According to the data, 55 percent of respondents oppose Israel’s military campaign in Gaza, with over 80 percent of that group stating that what is happening on the ground qualifies as genocide. This translates to roughly 45 percent of the UK’s adult population now recognising the war on Gaza as a genocidal campaign, echoing the findings of international human rights organisations documenting the mass killing of civilians, the destruction of hospitals and homes, and the denial of food, water, and medicine.

Public support for legal accountability has also surged. Sixty-five percent of Britons support enforcing an International Criminal Court arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should he travel to the UK. Among Labour Party voters, that figure rises to 78 percent. The poll also found that 43 percent of Labour supporters want the UK to recognise the State of Palestine immediately, while only 2 percent oppose it. More than half support a humanitarian visa scheme for Palestinians fleeing Gaza, similar to the programme for Ukrainian refugees.

Despite this clear stance from the public, the UK government remains reluctant to shift its position or challenge Israel’s actions directly. The poll highlights a widening gap between political leaders and the people they represent. Activists warn that continued inaction in the face of genocide will not only deepen Britain’s complicity but could also result in political consequences for ignoring public demands.

The poll’s findings mirror similar trends in countries like Canada, where nearly half the population now believes Israel is committing genocide. As the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza intensifies, so too does the call for governments to act, not with words, but with policy.

Public opinion in Britain is no longer silent. It is demanding justice, accountability, and a real commitment to international law.
