Palestinian detainee Maher al-Akhras has been on hunger strike for 92 days, rejecting his administrative detention in the Israeli jail.
Al-Akhras insisted that he will continue his strike without taking any food supplements until he is free.
He confirmed that no matter how many times the Israeli forces tried to break his strike, he will continue until he gets his demands.
"My only conditions are freedom or death,” al-Akhras once said.
His vital organs may stop functioning due to his refusal to take food supplements. His condition is very worrying as he has difficulty in his vision and unable to move or speak.
Al-Akhras, 49, a father of six children, was detained four times before. He was first detained in 1989, when he spent seven months in detention, for the second time in 2004, when he spent two years in detention and once again in 2009 when he was held for 16 months in administrative detention, and another time in 2018 when he spent 11 months in detention.
He was recently detained on July 27, 2020, and has been sentenced to four months in administrative detention without charge or trial.
It is noteworthy that there are around 350 Palestinian administrative detainees held in Israeli detention for their political activities.
