Hamas praises movement to prevent occupation granting observer status to African Union

The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas said that the movement led by many Arab countries to oppose granting the African Union observer status to Israel is a step in the right direction.

In a statement that reached Safa on Wednesday, Hamas spokesman Abdel Latif al-Qanou said that the movement is a confirmation that the Israeli occupation is the source of terrorism and tension in the region.

He pointed out that this movement requires that the rest of the Arab countries join the movement, support it and redouble efforts to expel the Israeli occupation from the African Union.

Algeria is seeking, in agreement with 13 countries, to expel Israel from the African Union, which it recently joined as an observer, which was considered a breakthrough in favor of normalization efforts.

The Algerian Al-Waqi TV channel said that Algeria has officially started forming an African team to reject the decision to include Israel in the African Union to preserve its principles and support the Palestinian state.

Among the participating countries: South Africa, Tunisia, Eritrea, Senegal, Tanzania, Niger, Comoros, Gabon, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Liberia, Mali, and Seychelles.

These countries have blessed any step Algeria takes against Israel, according to the channel's YouTube report.

The occupation had previously enjoyed the status of an observer member of the Organization of African Unity until 2002, then it was taken away from it by its replacement by the African Union.

Despite this, Israel continued to maintain relations with 46 African countries, as stated in a statement by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel.
