South Africa denounces Israel’s criminalizing of six Palestinian civil society groups

The South African government condemned on Sunday Israel’s recent designation of six Palestinian civil society groups without justification as terrorist organizations.

In a press statement, the South Africa government called on the Israeli government to stop the systematic disruption of the essential services provided by these organizations by de-classifying them as non-terrorist organizations.

It also called for allowing and granting the necessary access of human rights organizations to Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons and interrogation centers where Palestinian prisoners are detained.

The South African Government reiterated that “the continued occupation by Israel of Palestine remains totally unjust and shameful as it takes away human rights of Palestinians.”

“The South African Government remains unequivocally committed to and values efforts aimed at reviving a political process, leading to the establishment of a viable Palestinian state, existing side by side in peace with Israel within internationally recognized borders, based on those existing on 4 June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
