Committees and institutions call for protection for journalists in Palestine


Human rights and media committees and institutions stressed the need to provide protection for Palestinian journalists in light of the escalation of attacks against them since the beginning of 2021, which amounted to more than 678 attacks.

The coordinator of the Committee to Support Journalists in the Palestinian Territories, Saleh Al-Masry, demanded in a statement, a copy of which obtained by Safa, to provide protection for journalists in light of the escalating and continuous aggression in Gaza, the West Bank, and occupied Jerusalem by the occupation and its settlers.

Al-Masry urged the need to submit all attacks crimes against journalists and media institutions to the international courts in order to prosecute the perpetrators of these crimes.

He called for providing protective equipment and professional safety tools for Palestinian journalists who are besieged in Gaza, in light of the fact that it was prevented by the Israeli occupation for many years under security pretexts.

He called on all institutions concerned with freedom of opinion and expression, particularly UNESCO and the International Federation of Journalists, to prosecute perpetrators of crimes against journalists and to support the Palestinian media.

He stressed that the Israeli crimes and attacks will not affect the determination of journalists to continue their mission with all professionalism, calling for providing the necessary treatment for wounded journalists and providing a dignified life for the families of martyred journalists.

He also called on all Arab and international bodies and unions, led by the Union of Arab Journalists, to visit the Gaza Strip and support the media institutions that were destroyed during the recent aggression on Gaza.

For its part, the Palestinian Media Forum called for the need to end the impunity of the Israeli occupation for its crimes against journalists and media institutions.

Also, the Palestinian Journalist Bloc affirmed that the journalists continue their duties to convey the press message to the world, despite the deliberate obstacles of the occupation and the brutal violations against them.

It stressed the need for international institutions and concerned parties to put pressure on the Israeli government to stop its attacks against working journalists.
