Water Cut Off in Eastern Gaza City as Crews Unable to Access Key Infrastructure

The Gaza Municipality announced on Saturday a complete water outage in several eastern districts of Gaza City, citing the ongoing Israeli military operations and heightened security risks that have made it impossible for technical teams to access vital infrastructure.

According to a press statement, municipal crews have been unable to reach water distribution valves linked to the “Mekorot” pipeline, situated at the critical Al-Mansoura and Salah Al-Din intersection. This blockade has disrupted the entire water distribution system in the affected areas.

Additionally, the municipality reported that the central Al-Safa wells, also located along Salah Al-Din Street, are now inoperative. With water pumping halted, large portions of the city are facing widespread outages amid already dire humanitarian conditions.

The neighbourhoods currently without water include the area around Al-Sahaba Street, Al-Sadra intersection, Al-Nafaq Street, Al-Samer neighbourhood, and the vicinity of the historic Great Omari Mosque, among others. The full extent of the disruption is expected to expand if access is not restored soon.

Municipal officials warned that the water crisis could rapidly deteriorate further if technical crews remain unable to operate under fire. They have urgently called on international humanitarian organisations to intervene and pressure Israeli authorities to allow safe access to critical infrastructure.

With Gaza’s sanitation system on the verge of collapse and clean water increasingly scarce, the latest development signals yet another layer of suffering for a population already enduring war, displacement, and famine.
