Palestine Action activists have blockaded Leonardo, an Italian arms manufacturing, in Edinburgh, claiming the company supports Israel's military actions in Gaza. The group stopped production by fastening themselves on top of trucks and blocking roads with vans. This prevented the fabrication of parts for Israel's F-35 fighter jets, which have been used to attack Gaza.
Leonardo has long-standing ties to the Israeli military, with its Edinburgh facility producing laser-targeting systems for F-35 jets since 2015. These systems are used to deploy bombs on Gaza, according to the Campaign Against Arms Trade. The company also manufactures parts for Israel’s Apache helicopters and works with Israeli defense company Elbit Systems, despite receiving millions in support from the Scottish government.
Palestine Action has been attacking Leonardo's Edinburgh facility since October 2023 in an effort to stop the manufacture of weaponry used in Gaza. The group wants to draw attention to the British and Scottish governments' collusion in assisting Israel's defence sector.
Citing the deaths of almost 200,000 Palestinian civilians, the protestors attacked UK leadership for ignoring the ongoing genocide in Gaza. The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for crimes against humanity against Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Netanyahu.
