The Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative Movement called for a Palestinian campaign to pressure Israel to lift the imposed blockade on the Gaza Strip.
Mustafa Barghouti, the Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative Movement, demanded for a comprehensive Palestinian campaign to impose international pressure on "Israel" to lift its 14-years-imposed blockade on the Gaza Strip, and to prevent a disaster that can lead to dangerous consequences in the health sector.
Al-Barghouti described, in a press statement, Israel's blockade and its repeated bombing of the Strip in light of the spread of the Coronavirus, as a crime against humanity.
Moreover, he said that the health system in the Gaza Strip suffers from particularly vulnerable in infrastructure and a serious shortage of medicines and laboratory materials, of which only 40% of the basic needs are available.
Al-Barghouti stated that only 20 unoccupied ventilators are available in the Gaza Strip to be used for Coronavirus patients.
"It is impossible for the health sector to cope with the Corona epidemic in the Strip where electricity is only available for four hours a day and water being cut off in many areas due to the power outages caused by the Israeli blockade," he added
Al-Barghouti said that health institutions confirmed that eight thousand patients suffer from cancer and that no treatment is available for them in the Gaza Strip, and they are deprived of traveling to receive treatment in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
