Following the release of a detailed 30-page report, Christopher Lockyear, Secretary General of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), stated that the findings from their teams on the ground align with the growing consensus among legal experts and organisations, who argue that the ongoing events in Gaza amount to genocide. The report highlighted overwhelming evidence of ethnic cleansing and widespread destruction, including massacres, severe physical and psychological trauma, forced displacement, and the intolerable living conditions endured by Palestinians under siege and constant bombardment.
In response, a spokesperson for the Israeli foreign ministry dismissed the report as "completely false and misleading." Since the onset of the war on 7 October 2023, triggered by an unprecedented attack from the Hamas movement, Israel has been repeatedly accused by various NGOs, UN experts, and even in international courts of committing genocide in Gaza. South Africa has led the legal efforts in this regard. However, Israeli officials have consistently denied these allegations.
Both former Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are the subject of arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in late November, accusing them of crimes against humanity and war crimes in Gaza. Israel has appealed these warrants, condemning them as "anti-Semitic" and the charges as "absurd."
