The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced on Friday that nearly 1,000 healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses, and paramedics, have been killed by Israeli occupation forces since the onset of the devastating assault on Gaza on 7 October 2023.
In its statement, the ministry condemned what it described as systematic and deliberate attacks on medical personnel and facilities. It highlighted that Israeli airstrikes have not only destroyed critical healthcare infrastructure but have also directly targeted hospitals, clinics, ambulances, and staff engaged in life-saving operations.
The ministry described the situation as a humanitarian catastrophe, warning that the relentless bombardment has crippled Gaza’s already fragile healthcare system. With many hospitals reduced to rubble and severe shortages of medical supplies, the capacity to treat the injured and critically ill has been pushed to the brink.
The ministry held Israel fully accountable for the deaths of medical professionals and the collapse of essential healthcare services in the besieged territory. It also called on international organisations and human rights bodies to intervene urgently to protect healthcare workers and ensure the safety of medical facilities in line with international humanitarian law.
