Palestinian nurse Shorouk Al-Rantisi, one of the survivors of the attack on Kamel Adwan Hospital, shared harrowing details of the violence, humiliation, and forced evacuation she endured. Along with patients, doctors, and medical staff, she was subjected to the destruction of the hospital and the deliberate burning of key facilities, including the archive department where she worked.
Shorouk recounted the shock and horror of the Israeli army's siege of the hospital. "We were informed that the archives were being burned, and the flames spread to other parts of the hospital," she said. "Then, the army ordered us to evacuate. Those who could walk were told to leave, and we walked for a very long distance on foot with part of the medical staff."
Once outside, the group was separated by gender. The women were forced to remove their clothing under threat of violence. "Those who refused to disrobe were beaten, and soldiers confiscated our mobile phones," Shorouk explained. She described the scene as one of mockery, with soldiers forcing the women to strip in a manner that mirrored the treatment of the men.
The detainees were searched thoroughly before being forced to sit for one to two hours. Afterward, they were made to walk long distances, constantly monitored by military vehicles, until they were left in an area near Gaza City. Shorouk expressed deep concern about the fate of the 25 to 30 people who had been with them in the hospital, as their whereabouts remain unknown.
Maha Masoud, a displaced civilian who was inside the hospital during the attack, also recalled the brutality. "The Israeli army stormed the hospital at dawn and threatened us with weapons to force us to leave," she said. "Soldiers demanded that everyone go out to the yard, disregarding our humanitarian needs and treating us violently."
Along the journey, the group included children, disabled people, and the injured, all of whom suffered under the same brutal treatment. "The soldiers showed no mercy, even as children and the wounded cried in pain," Maha recalled, emphasizing the indifference and cruelty of the soldiers toward their suffering.
The survivors' testimonies provide a chilling account of the brutal tactics employed by the Israeli forces, underscoring the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the relentless suffering endured by civilians caught in the violence.
