The head of the Committee on Relations with Palestine in the European Parliament, Manu Pineda, said that Israel is an apartheid state, calling on the international community to impose sanctions on it because of its violations against the Palestinian people, as well as the need to recognize the state of Palestine.
In an interview with the "Friends of Palestine" program on Palestine TV, Pineda added, "Israel systematically violates international law, United Nations resolutions and the treaties it has signed, including the Oslo Accords."
He called on the international community and the European Union (EU) not to be satisfied with the declarations and recognition of the State of Palestine, and to impose sanctions on Israel if it continues on its system.
"Covid 19 has greatly exacerbated the situation of Palestinian prisoners, and we demand their release because the situation at this moment is more dangerous," he added, demanding for the release of prisoners who could be infected with Covid 19 and calling to the provision of medical staff to investigate the conditions of their detention and the care provided to them.
In addition, he stressed the need to continue to demand their release, and to stop the administrative detention.
Referring to the decision of the EU's High Court of Justice on the labeling of settlement products, he indicated that the EU should not import them for they are coming from the settlements, and illegally stolen from the Palestinian people.
Regarding Spain's recognition of the Palestinian state, Pineda said: "We, in the Onidas Podemos party, form a party in the coalition government in Spain, and we defend publicly and unconditionally for the recognition of the Palestinian state, and I think this will happen soon."
