As international condemnation of Israel's starvation tactics in Gaza grows, the Gaza Municipality has issued a dire warning: more than one million residents are now facing a critical water shortage under unrelenting bombardment and siege.
A municipal spokesperson revealed that the daily water supply has plummeted to less than five litres per person, barely enough to survive, let alone maintain basic hygiene. This figure is alarmingly below the minimum threshold set by the World Health Organization, and the situation is rapidly deteriorating.
The few remaining water wells are operating at less than 12% of needed capacity, crippled by relentless airstrikes, fuel scarcity, and total energy collapse. With power outages persisting and no safe access to repairs, Gaza’s water infrastructure is grinding to a halt.
Health risks are soaring. Waterborne diseases and sanitation-related illnesses are spreading quickly, especially under the intense summer heat. The spokesperson warned that without immediate international intervention, Gaza could soon face a full-scale humanitarian disaster.
This crisis is not a natural disaster, it is the result of policy. A deliberate blockade, combined with targeted strikes on infrastructure, has left civilians without the most basic elements of life. As the world begins to speak out, Gaza’s people wait, not just for aid, but for justice.
