Algeria Supports Iranian Initiative for OIC Meeting on Gaza

Algeria has warmly welcomed Iran’s initiative to hold an extraordinary meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Gaza, following the American president’s controversial remarks about taking control of the territory and forcibly relocating its entire population.

The Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, proposed the meeting on Monday evening during a phone call with his Algerian counterpart, Ahmed Attaf. This was part of his ongoing consultations with Muslim foreign ministers regarding Gaza.

During the conversation, Araghchi provided details of his recent discussions with Muslim leaders, as well as with the OIC Secretary-General Hussein Ibrahim Taha and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, aiming to mobilize the international community against what he termed the "ethnic cleansing plot in Gaza."

Araghchi also praised Algeria’s steadfast support for the Palestinian people’s resistance, their right to self-determination, and their struggle against Israeli occupation.

In his remarks, Abbas Araghchi strongly condemned the forced relocation plan for Palestinians in Gaza, describing it as part of a broader colonial project aimed at erasing Palestine. He called for a unified and decisive stance from the international community and Muslim nations against this dangerous conspiracy.

For his part, the Algerian Foreign Minister reaffirmed his country’s firm opposition to the American-Israeli plan to forcibly displace Gaza’s residents from their ancestral land.

Last week, Trump declared that the United States sought to "take control" of Gaza as part of a plan presented under the guise of "rebuilding" the war-torn Palestinian territory. The plan involves forcibly relocating around 2.4 million Gaza residents to Egypt and Jordan.

Both Cairo and Amman have already firmly rejected Trump’s provocative proposal, with the U.S. president recently suggesting the relocation of Gaza’s population to Saudi Arabia.
