French President Emmanuel Macron has firmly opposed Donald Trump’s vision for Gaza, condemning the former US president’s plan to take control of the besieged territory and transform it into the "Riviera of the Middle East." In an interview with CNN, Macron stressed that Gaza is home to two million people who have the right to live in their land, rejecting any notion of forced displacement.
"The right response is not a real estate project—it is a political solution," Macron stated, expressing his disagreement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He criticised the ongoing military campaign and questioned the legitimacy of mass operations that target civilians.
Macron also dismissed Trump’s calls for Palestinians to leave Gaza without any right to return, reaffirming his support for Jordan and Egypt, both of which have rejected the idea of absorbing displaced Palestinians. He warned that rebuilding Gaza must be done with respect for its people and neighbouring nations, not through imposed solutions.
With the humanitarian situation in Gaza deteriorating, Macron emphasised that the priority must be protecting civilians, maintaining the ceasefire, and ensuring the delivery of aid to save as many lives as possible.
