Winter Brings New Misery for Displaced Palestinians in Gaza

As winter deepens across the Gaza Strip, displaced Palestinians face unbearable conditions, with freezing temperatures and relentless rain worsening an already catastrophic humanitarian crisis. In Gaza City’s Yarmouk Stadium, hundreds of families sheltering in makeshift tents have been left exposed to the elements as heavy rains flood their shelters and stormy winds tear through their fragile nylon coverings.

The extreme cold has already claimed the lives of at least seven displaced individuals, mostly infants, as families struggle without adequate heating, proper shelter, or medical care. With entire neighbourhoods submerged due to the destruction of Gaza’s drainage and sewage systems, flooding has turned streets into impassable swamps, further paralyzing daily life for residents who have already lost everything.

More than two million people—almost the entire population of Gaza—are now displaced, with hundreds of thousands left without shelter following months of relentless Israeli bombardment. While international pledges promised the delivery of essential supplies, the slow trickle of aid has done little to alleviate their suffering. Families remain trapped in waterlogged tents, struggling to survive as hope fades.

Despite repeated calls for urgent intervention, aid efforts remain painfully inadequate. If the world continues to look away, the winter’s toll will only grow, deepening the despair of a people already fighting to survive against impossible odds.
