What Palestinian Prisoners Wrote on Prison Walls Before Their Release

Israeli newspaper *Yedioth Ahronoth* revealed on Saturday that Palestinian prisoners inscribed the words, “We will not forgive, we will not forget, we will not kneel,” on their cell walls before being released as part of the "Tsunami of the Free" prisoner exchange deal.

The newspaper reported that the Israeli prison administration discovered these slogans carved into the walls of prisoners’ cells prior to their release. While the exact timing of the discovery was not specified, it appears to be a response to a recent provocative act by the prison authorities.

Last week, the prison administration forced Palestinian prisoners released in the sixth batch of the deal to wear shirts bearing the phrase “We do not forget, we do not forgive,” alongside the Star of David and the prison administration’s logo. This move sparked widespread condemnation from Palestinian factions, human rights organizations, and prisoner rights advocates. The released prisoners promptly removed and burned the shirts upon arriving at the European Hospital square in Khan Yunis.

The condition of Palestinian prisoners upon their release, particularly those freed in exchange deals, highlights the severe torture, medical neglect, and poor treatment they endure in Israeli prisons.

The seventh batch of the "Tsunami of the Free" deal, implemented on Saturday, includes the release of 596 Palestinian prisoners. Among them are 50 serving life sentences, 60 with lengthy prison terms, 41 rearrested after being freed in the 2011 "Wafa al-Ahrar" deal, and 445 from Gaza arrested after October 7, 2023.

The prisoners’ defiant messages on the walls underscore their resilience and unwavering commitment to their cause, even in the face of systemic oppression.
