Siege and Starvation: Israel’s Tools of Slow Death in Gaza

Since the ceasefire began on January 19, 2025, Israel has killed 150 Palestinians—an average of six every two days—while using siege and starvation as tools of slow death in its ongoing genocide against Gaza, according to the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor.

In a Tuesday statement, the rights group documented Israel’s continued killings through sniper fire, quadcopter drones, and aerial attacks, particularly targeting Palestinians near the buffer zone along Gaza’s northern and eastern borders. Since the ceasefire, 150 Palestinians have been killed (3 per day) and 605 injured (11.8 per day), underscoring the systematic targeting of civilians without military justification.

Rafah, in southern Gaza, has been the most heavily targeted area since the ceasefire. The report highlights that Israel’s 15-month aggression has not only caused mass killings and destruction but is now escalating genocidal policies by imposing lethal living conditions. The comprehensive blockade prevents humanitarian aid, essential supplies, and infrastructure repairs, strangling Gaza while the international community fails to act.

The Euro-Med Monitor warned of an imminent humanitarian catastrophe as markets run out of goods, relief centers shut down, and crossings remain closed since March 2. Starvation is being weaponized as a tool of genocide, with Israel using aid as a bargaining chip for political and military gains.

The organization called on governments and international entities to fulfill their legal obligations, halt Israel’s genocide, and impose measures to lift the blockade. It urged immediate action to rescue Palestinians from slow death and displacement, including providing adequate temporary shelter and meeting urgent humanitarian needs.

As Gaza teeters on the brink of famine, the world’s silence continues to enable Israel’s systematic oppression, leaving millions to face a grim and uncertain future.
