The Ministry of Transport and Communications in Gaza has revealed that over 60% of the Strip's transportation infrastructure has been destroyed amid Israel's relentless military offensive, described by Palestinian authorities as a genocidal campaign. Ministry spokesperson Anis Arafat urged citizens to document their losses, calling on vehicle owners to register damaged cars, tuk-tuks, and motorcycles through an online platform. Unlicensed vehicles, he added, will be assessed by a special committee at the ministry’s headquarters.
Arafat emphasised that once conditions allow, field committees will be deployed to evaluate the extent of the damage. He encouraged owners to provide photos and details of their vehicles, whether partially or completely destroyed. The ministry is also coordinating with the Interior Ministry and police to verify reports of vehicles obliterated in Israeli airstrikes, ensuring their destruction is officially documented.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel's U.S.-backed assault on Gaza has killed and injured over 160,000 Palestinians, the majority being women and children, with more than 14,000 still missing. The transport sector’s devastation is just one facet of the widespread destruction inflicted on Gaza’s infrastructure, as the enclave continues to endure what Palestinian officials describe as a systematic campaign of annihilation.
