Indonesian Hospital in Gaza Struggles to Cope with Influx of Wounded Amid Escalating Violence

The Director of the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza, Marwan Sultan, has issued a stark warning about the dire conditions facing medical facilities as they struggle to respond to the overwhelming number of casualties following a renewed Israeli military escalation. Speaking on Thursday, Sultan described the situation as "catastrophic," emphasizing that the hospital is grappling with severe shortages of fuel, medical supplies, medicines, and oxygen, all while attempting to treat a surge of wounded patients.

Sultan revealed that the hospital received 43 fatalities and 82 injured individuals overnight, a testament to the intensity of the recent attacks. He condemned the destruction of critical medical infrastructure, including oxygen machines and other essential equipment, by Israeli forces during the ongoing assault on Gaza. "We are facing immense challenges in providing even the most basic care," Sultan stated. "The situation is beyond dire—it is a genocide."

The latest escalation began unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, when Israeli forces launched a widespread military offensive across Gaza, targeting civilian areas during the pre-dawn meal time (suhur). This attack marks a significant breach of the ceasefire agreement brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States earlier this year. Over the past 48 hours, Gaza’s hospitals have reported receiving 710 fatalities and more than 900 injured, making this one of the deadliest phases of the conflict in recent months.

The renewed violence has exacerbated the already critical humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where residents have endured years of blockade, repeated military assaults, and systemic deprivation of basic resources. The Indonesian Hospital, like other medical facilities in the Strip, is operating at breaking point, with staff forced to make impossible decisions about who receives care amid dwindling supplies.

Sultan’s statements underscore the broader tragedy unfolding in Gaza, where civilians bear the brunt of the violence. The international community has yet to take decisive action to halt the aggression or address the deepening humanitarian catastrophe. As the death toll rises and medical resources vanish, the people of Gaza continue to endure unimaginable suffering under the weight of relentless violence and siege.
