Tehran Condemns UN Security Council's "Shameful Inaction" Over US and Israeli Atrocities

The spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Esmaïl Baghaï, has strongly condemned the devastating US airstrikes on Yemen and the escalating attacks by the Israeli regime on Palestinians in Gaza, criticising the UN Security Council’s failure to act against these brutal actions.

On Thursday, March 20, Baghaï expressed deep sorrow over the killing of civilians, including innocent women and children, and the destruction of vital infrastructure in Yemen following US bombings. He described the US airstrikes as war crimes and acts of aggression, slamming the "shameful and unjustifiable" inaction of the UN Security Council and other international bodies in the face of such atrocities.

Baghaï also condemned the recent wave of Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, which have killed hundreds of Palestinian children and women. He emphasised that those providing military, financial, and political support to the Israeli regime are complicit in its crimes. According to the Iranian official, the timing of US attacks on Yemen, which began under former President Joe Biden, alongside the escalation of violence in Gaza, reveals a coordinated effort to weaken the Islamic world and silence voices of solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian people.

The spokesperson called on the Muslim world to take collective responsibility in ending Israeli crimes and US military aggression against Palestinians and other Muslim nations. He urged Muslim governments and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take decisive and effective action to address these crises.

Since Israel broke the ceasefire on Tuesday, at least 436 Palestinians, including 183 children, have been killed in Gaza. Dr. Khalil Al-Daqran, spokesperson for Gaza’s Health Ministry, reported that 900 others have been injured, with many dying due to a lack of medical supplies and equipment. "Around 70% of the wounded are women and children, most with severe injuries," he warned.

Meanwhile, in Yemen, US military strikes have killed dozens of civilians in recent days, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region. Tehran continues to call for international accountability and action to halt these ongoing violations.
