As families in Gaza anticipated the arrival of Eid al-Fitr, a festival traditionally associated with joy and togetherness, their celebrations were shattered by Israeli airstrikes. The early hours of Eid were marked by devastation, as at least 24 individuals, including children, lost their lives in attacks on residential areas where many had sought refuge.
The airstrikes targeted homes and makeshift tents in Khan Younis, striking without warning while families were asleep or preparing for prayers. What should have been a time for spiritual reflection turned into a scene of chaos and grief, with entire families trapped beneath the rubble. Survivors recounted the relentless nature of the bombings, which showed no regard for the innocent.
For Palestinians already suffering under months of conflict, displacement, and siege, these attacks served as a harsh reminder that safety remains elusive. Even during sacred moments like Eid, the sounds of explosions drowned out the calls to prayer, leaving communities in despair. Many had relocated within Gaza, seeking refuge from violence, only to face new tragedies.
Rather than gathering for festive meals, families found themselves at burial sites, mourning their loved ones. This Eid, instead of being a time of sweets and laughter, became one of funerals, shattered homes, and the heavy burden of grief.
